This @sangin.instruments Hydra II is rigged up on a @watchesofespionage Five Eye Nylon Watch Strap at the birthplace of Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (SOE), St. Ermin’s Hotel in London. It was built as a mansion residence back in the 1890s, and evolved into a hub for British espionage - especially during WWII where the SOE would use it as a meeting point for spies like the Cambridge Five. In 1940, Winston Churchill established the SOE Headquarters in three rooms on the third floor of the St. Ermin’s Hotel, tasking them to “set Europe ablaze” through sabotage and resistance support. The hotel hosted spy meetings between famous figures like Ian Fleming and Noel Coward, with some rooms used for clandestine briefings and recruitment. Members of the “Cambridge Five” (notorious double agents Kim Philby and Guy Burgess) used the St. Ermin’s Hotel Caxton Bar for secret rendezvous with Soviet handlers.
