Here at SEND ME the DTG we call balls and strikes. This means we call the dials as we see them and mindfully-mitigate the risk of our bezels sliding into the political fray! Mr. Derrick Anderson, a former U.S. Army Special Forces Officer and Republican Congressional Candidate, was recently sworn in as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (ASD SO/LIC). He’s pictured here with his green dial @rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 (perhaps to match the green beanie he used to wear from time-to-time). I would be remiss if I didn’t note for the record his Rollie is riding awfully low on the ole wrist bone, but some of us like to color outside the lines… and that’s perfectly fine’ish and acceptable some of the time. Mr. Anderson is flanked by the Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council, Dr. Sebastian Gorka (left) and an unidentified mentor from Texas (right). I’ve known many ASD SO/LIC officeholders over the years – two of which I know personally! One went on to be acting SecDef for a brief stint and I wrote a letter of recommendation for the other when he was applying to a doctoral program (which he was accepted into and graduated from - nailed it)! Dr. DTG doesn’t have the privilege of knowing Mr. Anderson personally, but there’s still time. I do know sitting in the ASD SO/LIC seat is quite the challenge as the position is the Pentagon’s top civilian advisor for special operations and irregular warfare. As the Pentagon’s lead advocate for SOF, Mr. Anderson’s responsibilities include ensuring all special operations units are properly resourced, trained, and deployed in accordance with the National Defense and Security Strategies. Godspeed to Mr. Anderson and his enterprise stewardship on behalf of all the SOF brothers and sisters out there (me included)!
